Mouse

A mouse is used as a pointer on your PC monitor. It enables you to control what happens on the screen by moving the mouse on your desk or table and clicking on an icon or button on your screen. A mouse has two buttons and a central wheel used for scrolling. Mouse’s are a necessary part of a PC.
 

 

Keyboard

A keyboard is the most common and widely used input device. It is made up of buttons called keys that are arranged into sections. A keyboards layout is arranged into sections; Function keys (F1, F2 ect), Numeric keys, alphabetic keys and the arrow keys. Keyboards have shortcuts that are made up of multiple keys, these shortcuts include actions like zoom in and out, undo and redo, and Print screen.
 
 

 
 
 
 
 

Microphone


A microphone is used to input sound. The sound is detected by the microphone and an electrical signal is transmitted to the computer. Special hardware is used to convert this analogue data into digital data it can be stored and altered.
 
 
 
 
 

Scanner


Scanners are used to input pictures or documents onto a computer. Once the picture or document is scanned into the computer it is usually stored in an image format but can be changed into a text file using special software called Optical Character Recognition. This can be used to convert text on the paper into text which can be edited with a word processor. A scanner can come in three types; Flatbed Scanners, Handheld Scanners and Specialist Scanners.
